A remarkable evening of generosity and community spirit has resulted in $1 million raised in support of West Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation and McNally House Hospice.
The Shine On event, created by Harmony Jewellers as part of its 50th anniversary, brought together over 200 attendees for a unique fundraising experience centered around donated jewellery. Community members contributed personal pieces—many holding sentimental value—which were transformed through auctions into meaningful support for local healthcare and hospice services. The two jewellery auctions alone raised some $600,000, with an additional $400,000 generated during the live event at Megalomaniac.
The initiative was deeply personal for Harmony owners Kevin and Kaitlyn Luttjehuizen, whose family connections to both organizations inspired the cause. Their vision was to create a fundraiser that not only gave back, but also reflected the full continuum of care in the community—from birth at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital to end-of-life support at McNally House Hospice. The event also highlighted the growing West Niagara Campus of Care, which brings together hospital services, hospice care, and long-term care on one site.
Community response to Shine On was overwhelming, with strong support from donors, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees alike.
Kevin Antonides, Board Chair of the WLMH Foundation, described the evening as “nothing short of extraordinary,” emphasizing both the milestone anniversary and the impact of the funds raised. “What stood out most was not just the remarkable one million dollars raised, but the spirit behind it… this event showed what is possible when a community rallies together.”
Pamela Ellens, Executive Director of the WLMH Foundation, echoed that sentiment, saying, “Shine On was an incredible reflection of what community-driven philanthropy can achieve… transforming personal items into lasting impact for our Campus of Care.”
Proceeds from the event will directly support priority initiatives at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, including new inpatient beds, enhanced diagnostic equipment, and expanded surgical care.
Pamela Blackwood, Executive Director, McNally House Hospice noted, “The success of Shine On demonstrates what can happen when a caring community comes together behind two important causes… it was far more than a fundraiser—it was a celebration of generosity, compassion, and community spirit that will have a lasting impact on local families for years to come.”
Murray Bain, McNally House Board Chair, added, “We are truly touched by the kindness shown through Shine On… this community once again showed its heart. The funds raised will support our capital campaign and bring us closer to opening our new Hospice Residence this fall.”
Proceeds from the event will support the capital campaign for the new McNally House Hospice Residence, scheduled for completion this fall, as well as cuddle beds that allow loved ones to remain close and connected during end-of-life care.
More than a fundraiser, Shine On stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with purpose—turning generosity into lasting impact for local families.
