West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has recently moved into its new hospital and is continuing to advance surgical care with the addition of a specialized spinal operating table. This important investment, totalling $203,981.79, will enhance spine surgery services and improve access to care for patients in our community.
Each year, more than 1,600 patients look to Hamilton Health Sciences for spine care. Of those patients, over 600 require specialized treatment that can now be safely and effectively provided at WLMH because of this new spine specific operating table.
Care Closer to Home : For patients suffering from debilitating back and neck
conditions, often accompanied by chronic pain, numbness, and weakness, this
new equipment means care closer to home. Many spine procedures can be
performed on a same day surgery basis, allowing patients to return home the
very same day. This not only helps relieve pressure on hospital capacity
across the region, but more importantly provides patients with a healthcare
journey that is seamless and patient centred.
One of the most remarkable aspects of spine surgery is that, for many
patients, relief is immediate. Pain that has limited mobility, independence, and quality of life for months or even years can be significantly reduced following surgery. Generous donations from our community quite literally have the power to change a patient’s quality of life.
Supporting Advanced Surgical Practice: The introduction of a spine specific
operating room table also represents an important step forward for surgical
practice at the hospital. Until now, spine procedures have been performed
using a standard operating table, which limits surgical positioning and
efficiency. The new table enables surgeons to move toward the use of
microscopic and minimally invasive techniques, improving surgical precision
while further reducing recovery time for patients.
This investment of $203,981.79 includes all required components and installation, ensuring WLMH is equipped with the specialized technology needed to safely deliver advanced spine care.
